I love to read.
I read a lot.
I can’t be bothered with the local literature. Everyone knows no good
book will ever come or has ever come from Norway.
I also have already filled up the closet that is known as my apartment
with dead tree scrolls so I am forced to use e-readers now.
So being a tad lazy I now bought into the Amazon Kinde ecology.
Millions of books just a click away. Great right?
That will give me years of awesome literature to fill my empty life with.
Now, being a failed artist myself, I know the pain of rejection. It is
hard to pour your heart and soul into something and being told that
you are rubbish.
So having a bazaar where everyone can contribute and we dont have the
evil gatekeepers that keep the world from seeing your true brilliance.
The Kindle ecosystem is a lot like utopia.
All is gonna be super.
Now after living with my Kindle for several years, it is more like
being stuck in a gigantic crowd of smelly people who are all shoving
manuscripts into your face with brilliant fake reviews.
It is so hard to find good books, it is pretty hard to find mildly
mediocre ones. Every single book has stellar reviews that you are not
worth the photons they are shot into your eyes by.
I have bought far too many highly recommended e-books that makes your
eyes bleed. I have a pathological obsessive-compulsive disorder that
if I get a book I have to finish it. Oh the agony.
Now there have to be good books in there, probably hundreds of them.
Little gems that are worthy of a bathroom read, and maybe even a
Sunday afternoon read if you get lucky. (Using a Kindle in the
bathroom is a bad habit). But how do I find them?
Then I had a thought, what if Amazon hired people who would read
books, and tell people if they are crap or not. Kinda keep the quality
at a minimum level???
And there you go. I have become a fascist snob who wants the
cathedral, and not the stinky crowded and lawless bazar. I have turned
on my own wish for the artistic utopia.
Thanks, Amazon.
